Appreciate the men in your life with an African Flavor and Flair

As sure as the sun rises and sets, men need self-care
as much as anyone else.

The month of love always coincides with Black History Month celebrations in the US; one lasting the full calendar month and the other getting a day.

This is a perfect opportunity to show meaningful appreciation for the men in your lives and encourage them to celebrate themselves without prejudice. This is the perfect month to celebrate the sons, brothers, nephews, husbands, brothers in laws, boyfriends, uncles, fathers and sons in our lives and celebrate the love we share.

Here are three ways to practice care and support it.

🧳 Pack a weekend bag and spend a solo weekend away from the hustle and bustle of life. Bring some reflection prompts, a pen, and paper and it will surprise you the amount of things you can do in order to declutter your mind and your life.

Who says you can’t get away for longer than a weekend, going for the green and winding up in a hole. Make it extra special and experience it on the continent. A few courses to check out include;
Gary Player Golf Course, Sun City, South Africa,
Cascades at Soma Bay, Hurghada, Egypt,
Heritage Golf Club, Bel Ombre, Mauritius
Assoufid Golf Club, Marrakech, Morocco,
Karen Country Club, Nairobi, Kenya.

🫂 Join active communities of men who celebrate brotherhood, elevate each other, and pour into their communities. Be it a conference, sports or fellowship team led by your church, student union, or advocacy group. Take a leaf from gatherings such as the Black Male Summit in Birmingham or the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance that have expanded male conversations and community. Committing to being in community with other men can make a world of difference.

🔐 Awaken your senses. There is so much sentimental value that we encode through our senses, so awaken yours by doing one thing that is pleasing to each of your senses.
The rich smell of coffee,
The taste of fried rice,
The sounds of Burna Boy, Youssou N'Dour or Fatoumata Diawara,
The sight of Black joy, and the feel of quality fabric.

Don't hold back, go for it.

Encouraging men to practice self care should be second nature to us, in the same way that we advocate for care, rest, and wellbeing amongst everyone else.

It truly goes without saying, but the world can be harsh towards men sometimes, and we can choose to meet the men in our lives with thoughtful and consistent appreciation this month. This laser focus matters because our collective wellbeing makes for better, healthier families, communities, and nations.

Who knows, when the people around you begin seeing how you care for yourself, the way they support and show up for you might elevate 🙌 Looking for some relaxed spa options on the African continent? Check this out by clicking here
