You Do You: Express your Personal Style

Casual. Timeless. Bold. Chic. Trendy. Romantic. Contemporary.

Style is evolutionary. It weaves Lifestyle with Expression.
Clarity on who you want to present and what you want to say the world is a the foundation of personal style.

How exactly does one develop a personal style?

If you are in a period of transition, you might be considering a wardrobe change and an overall switch-up in style. Your first professional job, a new country, a new year, a new season, a new industry, or a tax bracket that has been on your radar for a while. You could spend hours on Pinterest, hundreds on fashion magazines, or precious screen time on instagram pages trying to find pieces that could work for you.

Alternatively, you could take the time to define and find what your personal style is.

Here are 9 tips;

#1 Make a Fashion Statement. Decide what you want your clothes to say about how you feel inside. When a style is curated to reflect inner confidence and values, it shows - the clothes take on a new meaning once they are on your body.

#2 Steer clear of what is on trend. Your goal should be to have clothing that has quality and longevity for you. What is in today, no matter how cute it might look, will age you once the season is over. Build your Style with foundational pieces including white button down shirts, blazers, and black pants.

#3 Find a cut of clothing that is comfortable. However, comfort is not an excuse to bury your body structure. You can stand out, celebrate your build, and still be able to comfortably function in different settings.  Relative comfort means you can look forward to being in your clothes.

#4 Celebrate what makes you different. We all have different shades of skin and underlying tones. Find three colors that complement your skin tone and begin building tops, bottoms, and shoes around them.

#5 Do not neglect having multiple basic pieces, even if they are in the same color. Just remember that a basic tee comes in different colors, so feel free to get them in neutrals that match your skin or bold colors that complement your desired wardrobe.

#6 Take your tones and run with them! Identify three colors that bring light to your day and begin experimenting with how they look on you. Try clothing of different length and sizes in order to find a ratio of bold colors that sparks joy!

#7 With all those pieces, carry that aesthetic into your shopping for all weather seasons. That is how you build a signature style that is recognizable no matter the time of the year.

#8 Being able to transition from different functions in one day rests on having basics that can take various add-ons. Have a handful of signature pieces that go on top of versatile basics.

#9 Accentuate with your Accessories. Scarves, Wrist Watches, Shoes and more. Pick a handful of accessories that match your style. Accessories are an opportunity to add that pop of color and layer in details to your outfit.
