Selecting The Perfect Color Clothing For Your Skin Tone

Have you ever considered your skin tone when it comes to your choice of clothing?
The reality for a healthy majority is that we don't spend much time thinking about skin tone and its significant connection to our color choices for clothing.

It is common practice to simply head to a store and buy clothes based on look and feel or if we like how it looks on the mannequin. Knowing your true skin tone can help with choosing colors that flatter your complexion.

What are my Skin Tones?

Figuring out your actual skin tone goes beyond basic visual observation of skin. This is important because the skin can change daily based on medication, exposure to UV rays, or skin conditions.

Figuring out your skin tone goes beyond a topical evaluation because it includes your skin undertone(s).

It is possible to have at least two different undertones on your face.  It is also normal to have different undertones for other sections of your body. Working with the two dominant tones when tested is the best way to select the right color clothing for you.

The first step of this simple test is to ensure your skin is clean and bare without of makeup or other cosmetics such as creams and moisturizers.

 White Paper Test

Give your face about thirty minutes, stand in the best natural light possible with a sheet of white sheet of paper held next to your face.

 ·  Cool Skin Tone: This skin tone is characterized by a rose, pink or blue color when the white paper is held next to your face.

 · Warm Skin Tone: This skin tone is characterized by yellow, green, or a light brown color when the white paper is held next to your face.

 · Neutral Skin Tone: This skin tone is characterized by ashen or gray when the white paper is held next to your face.

 The Vein Test

In place of the white paper test, you can turn your palm up towards your face and carefully look at your veins on the wrist of your hand.

 ·  Cool skin: this is characterized by the appearance of blue or purple veins

·   Warm Skin: This is characterized by the appearance of green veins.

·   Neutral Skin: This is characterized by the difficulty of telling the exact color of the veins.

Selecting Clothes According to Skin Tone(s).

Now that you have a better grasp of figuring out your skin tone, it’s time to select the colors that that complement your skin tone(s).

·    Warm Skin Tone Colors: The best colors for warm skin tones include olive, honey, coral, and cream. These colors help to keep your skin tone looking rejuvenated instead of dull.

·    Cool Skin Tone Colors: The best colors for cool skin tones include lavender, blue, rose, and gray because they balance the skin tone rather than clash with it.

·      Neutral Skin Tone Colors: Great colors neutral skin tones include white, red, jade and a medium shade of blue because it enhances the perfect vibrancy for your skin without overpowering it.

·    Colors for all skin tones: These include white, light shade of blush pink, teal, and deep purple. These are great for all skin tones because they provide a balance of warm and cool thus making it universal for all skin tones. Selecting from these colors regardless of your skin tone will ensure it highlights your skin with overwhelming it.
